Recent storms knocked out electricity at my home office for 12 hours. This also caused me to lose land line phone and internet connection and sent me scurrying to a friend's house in order to send out a very important time sensitive response to a potential client. Losing power is always a time for reflection, especially given recent stories of vulnerabilities within the US power grid. It’s not just that the ease and speed of our communications and even our ability to communicate are dependant on having electricity, it’s that, in the dark and quiet of my downtime I was looking for my business continuity plan to make sure it covered this risk.
